Itchy Skin On Dogs

Posted by admin on March 7th, 2009

The days are beginning to lengthen where I live and it won’t be that long until summer has arrived and all that that means. For dogs though summer can mean that they start to experience dry skin and excessive itchiness. In this blog I want to make a few suggests as to what you can do about itchy skin on dogs.

Now if you notice that your dog is starting to feel uncomfortable the first thing to check is fleas. If your pet hasn’t got fleas then here’s a few tips to try, it should give your dog some relief.

When you are feeding your dog add about two tablespoons of canola oil, if you can’t get hold of that then try a good vegetable oil. What we are doing here is adding extra fat so that your dog’s coat will become more soft and shiny look – this should help alleviate dry skin and itching.

You can of course go to your pet store and buy a branded product and no doubt you will achieve success but before you do try this tip. Take two lemons and slice them into a litre of water and boil for twenty minutes. Let it cool down and sponge your dog down with it. It’s cheat and works wonders and is certainly well worth a try. Itchy skin on dogs seems to be one of these problems that is easily cured by good home made remidies

Itchy skin on dogs is not a life and death issue but if none of the above remedies work, and if shop bought remedies fail then please take your dog to your local vet, don’t leave it in discomfort.
