I love sweet things: cream cakes, sweets, and chocolates of all descriptions but have you ever been tempted to slip your dog a quick chocolate? In fact can dogs eat chocolate?
The answer is a definate No! Chocolates are harmful to dogs as they contain theobromine and caffeine. These two substances will affect a dog’s central nervous system and cardiovascular system. A dog may even die from chocolate poisoning after taking a substantial amount of chocolates. The level of toxicity depends on the type of chocolate (dark chocolates contain more theobromine than milk chocolates), the amount of chocolate taken and the size and health condition of the dog. Signs of chocolate poisoning include restlessness, vomiting, increased urination and even seizures or cardiac arrest in severe cases.
