Bringing A New Puppy Home
Posted by admin on August 31st, 2009Your puppy will experience a traumatic first few days no matter how hard you try to make it feel comfortable. Going to a new home is a daunting and possibly lonely experience for all puppies, and your puppy is about to be overloaded with many new and possibly frightening sights and sounds.
Like babies, puppies sleep a lot and it is important to provide your puppy with:
- A dark, warm, safe, draught-free bed (preferably with some from his/her old bed);
- A small escape-proof area away from noise and disturbance (be certain that no matter what, the puppy will be safe in this area);
- Access to a shallow bowl of water; and
- Newspaper on the floor around the bed area for when puppy needs to relieve himself/herself after they wake up.
Don’t leave children unattended with the pup, as kids often hold puppies too tightly and then drop them when they squirm. Make sure kids understand that they may only hold the pup when they are sitting down.
Take your puppy to a reputable puppy pre-school or dog training club, stay interested in him and you’ll enjoy an enriched lifestyle
